Exotic Ethiopia & the Holy Land – October 2017

For Early Bird Special register by 30th June 2016

Ethiopia

Ethiopia is a nation of surprises, filled with diversity and contrast from the ancient to the modern. Legend has it that Emperor MenelikI, the son of the Queen of Sheba and King Solomon, brought the Ark of the Covenant from Jerusalem to Axum, where he settled and established one of the world’s longest known, uninterrupted monarchical dynasties.

Ethiopia has been voted CNN 2015’s World Best Tourism Destination and is famous for having the most unparalleled riches and historical legacy in Sub-Saharan Africa

We will visit its fertile national parks, 3,000 year-old archaeological marvels and nine UNESCO world heritage sites to see why.

On the main tour we will follow the Historical Circuit, where there are over two millennia’s worth of ancient treasures scattered about, from giant obelisks and hidden tombs at Axum to a collection of castles in and around Gondar, the magical rock-hewn churches of Lalibela and the beautiful scenery and shimmering blue Lake Tana and surrounding Blue Nile Falls. The religious passion of Orthodox Ethiopians remains mystical and seeing them in practice will be a unique experience.

Southern Ethiopia & Omo Valley

The Lower Omo Valley is home to some of Africa’s most unique and traditional ethnic groups. We will explore their villages, learn about local customs and wander through the bustling markets.

We will also explore the dramatic nature of the valley including a boat trip on Lake Chamo, home to crocodiles and hippos and a variety of birdlife.

The lip-stretching Mursi and body-painting Karo tribes, will leave the deepest impression on us. To meet them 20 years ago was nearly unheard of so we are very priviliged now.

Israel

Israel holds many treasures for travellers looking to delve into history. Entrenched in the ancient but emphatically modern in outlook it is an intriguing place to visit.

Stroll the Old City’s age-old ramparts in Jerusalem, visit the spot Jesus entered the world in Bethlehem, go for a swim with a difference in the Dead Sea or the beautiful Mediterranean Sea and get among the everyday hype of modern cafe culture Tel Aviv.

Walk through the alleyways of the impressive Crusader city of Akko, marvel at Masada, the remote hilltop fortress and palace built by King Herod and the beautiful Bahai gardens in Haifa.
